Bio
Goran Janev is professor of social anthropology at the Institute for Sociological, Political and Juridical Research, “Sts Cyril and Methodius” University, Skopje, Macedonia. He has completed a DPhil in Social Anthropology at the Oxford University on informal political organization of Macedonians and Albanians. He has written about the interethnic relations and the rise of ethnocracy in Macedonia and the symbolic landscape transformations in the construction of the national identity. He was a teacher fellow in Macedonian Studies at SSEES, UCL, London, UK, postdoc at Max Planck Institute for Social and Religious Diversity in Goettingen, and research fellow at the Slavic Studies Department at Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany.
His current research interests focus on urban studies, public space, symbolic landscapes, socialist monuments, border studies, cultural heritage, politics of identities and memory, and diversity.
