Bio
Atiyeh Azarshab is an anthropologist and postdoctoral researcher whose work focuses on gender, identity, ethnicity, migration, and marginalisation in Iran and the Middle East. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from the Islamic Azad University, Central Tehran Branch, and is currently a Research Fellow at the University of Cologne, where she studies gendered inequalities, cultural practices, and identity dynamics among Baloch women in contemporary Iran.
Her broader research interests include environmental anthropology and resource cultures, cultural memory and intergenerational transmission, migration and diasporic communities, and the anthropology of Iran and Baloch communities. Her research draws on qualitative and comparative ethnography and engages with the intersections of gender, culture, identity, and social transformation. She has also conducted research at the University of Edinburgh and the University of California, Berkeley. Her publications address Balochi folklore and literature, gender and women’s experiences, food and environmental practices, and digital representations of Baloch women.
