Événement culturel et conférence

"Raised in the Diaspora: Navigating our Indigenous Identity as Second-Generation Igorots"

This four-day conference gathers Igorot indigenous migrants from 15 countries in Europe, the US, and the Pacific. It is packed with cultural activities such as panel and plenary sessions, workshops, a book launch, a cultural gala night, and more. The event aims to provide a platform for migrant participants to gather to celebrate indigenous culture, as well as discuss the challenges and opportunities of maintaining indigenous identities while living in the diaspora. Some topics to be discussed during the sessions include contemporary issues and experiences of indigeneity, negotiations of second-generation Igorot immigrants, and representations and material culture in mobility. The Igorots are indigenous people from the Cordillera highlands in northern Philippines.

The event program is available at https://www.cordi-bel.be. This event is co-organized by Angelie Marilla, FNRS Doctoral Researcher at the LAMC, with the Cordillera Community in Belgium (Cordi-Bel) and the Igorot Cordillera BIMAAK-Europe (ICBE) Network.
